Courtesy of Acoustic-4-a-CureRed Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith is performing at this year’s edition of the annual Acoustic-4-a-Cure benefit show, taking place May 15 in San Francisco.
The concert will be hosted by Sammy Hagar and Grateful Dead member Bob Weir, and will also feature performances from ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani and REO Speedwagon‘s Kevin Cronin, among others.
In addition to its traditional goal of raising money for the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, this year’s Acoustic-4-a-Cure will also serve as a 75th birthday celebration for blues icon Taj Mahal, who’ll also perform.
Hagar co-founded Acoustic-4-a-Cure in 2014 with Metallica‘s James Hetfield, who hosted the concert with the Red Rocker for its first three years. Hetfield missed last year’s show due to tour commitments with Metallica, so Dave Grohl filled in. The metal icons will be touring Europe this May as well, which is presumably why Hetfield can’t make it this year, either.
Tickets to the 2018 Acoustic-4-a-Cure go on sale this Friday, March 30 at 10 a.m. PT via LiveNation.com.
