ABC/Lorenzo BevilaquaChance the Rapper has called out Dutch brewing company Heineken International for allegedly being racist, based on a commercial from the popular beer brand.
Sunday, the “No Problem” artist tweeted, “I think some companies are purposely putting out noticably [sic] racist ads so they can get more views. And that s*** racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn’t help by posting about it.”
“But [laughing emoji] I gotta just say tho. The ‘sometimes letter is better’ Hienekin [sic] commercial is terribly racist omg.”
In a following tweet, Chance shared the Heineken Light ad in question, which shows a bartender sliding a bottle of Heineken beer to an attractive, white woman standing at an opposite end of a bar.
The bottle makes it way to her past a black man sitting at the bar, a black guitar player and a black woman walking, before it finally gets to the white woman.
The ad then ends with the slogan, “Sometimes, Lighter is Better” and highlights the calorie count, which is 99, for the beer.
In a final tweet about the Heineken ad, Chance writes, “Im not saying boucott [sic] them or go off im just noticing how often it happens and I think they baiting consumers and tweeters and freelancers and s***.”
“Like I didnt wanna tweet about it so bad [laughing emojis] but its like how can you not.”
