GAB Archive/RedfernsA series of early Kinks albums originally issued in the U.K. on the Pye label have been remastered especially for iTunes and will be released digitally soon.
While the release date and titles have yet to be officially revealed, the reliable fan site KindaKinks.net reports that, according to the BMG label, seven remastered albums “will be made available to download and stream” on March 30.
In conjunction with the impending catalog release, a video of Kinks frontman Ray Davies listening to an original recording of the band’s classic song “Waterloo Sunset” and a newly remastered version of the track has been posted on the band’s Facebook page.
After hearing the new version, Ray remarks, “More distinct, you can hear the acoustic [guitar] better.” He adds, “The Kinks in particular are built for this new kind of mastering technique because it improves what was there in the beginning.”
The video also features a graphic that shows seven early Kinks albums: 1964’s Kinks, 1965’s Kinda Kinks and The Kink Kontroversy, 1966’s Face to Face, 1967’s Something Else by The Kinks, 1970’s Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One and 1971’s Percy.
Meanwhile, Davies has been working on the sequel to his 2017 solo album Americana, which likely will be released later this year. Both albums are inspired by Ray’s 2013 memoir of the same name.
