ABC/Paula LoboIn the past two years, Sean Paul has been featured on two huge hits: the chart-topping Sia song “Cheap Thrills” and the global smash “Rockabye” by Clean Bandit. It’s hard for even Sean Paul himself to believe that 2018 marks 15 years since he first broke through with the #1 singles “Get Busy” and “Baby Boy.”
“I think I’ve loved the ride, y’know what I mean?” Sean tells ABC Radio. “For us, as artists sometimes, we’re doing a lot of the same thing…however, we do love what we do, so it doesn’t feel monotonous. And then the time passes and you’re like, ‘Damn! It’s been years!'”
It’s quite an accomplishment for a pop musician to be scoring hits 15 years into their career, and the reggae star knows he’s very lucky. “It’s amazing,” he notes. “In the beginning, I really believed in my music and where it could go, but obviously it keeps going!”
“So yeah, big up to everybody who loves what I do and dancehall music, reggae vibes,” he says, thanking the fans. “And me bringing it to a more pop audience has been very cool.”
And that audience has grown recently, thanks to kids who just discovered him and are now going back and finding “Get Busy,” “Baby Boy,” “Temperature” and the rest.
“Yeah, I still hear those songs on the radio and people still jam ’em,” he tells ABC Radio. “I still have young kids who, they might know me for ‘Rockabye’ last year or the Sia song, and then they start checking me out more…so it’s pretty cool.”
Sean Paul’s latest collabo is “Mad Love,” featuring Becky G and David Guetta. He performed the track, which will appear on his upcoming album, Tuesday on ABC’s Good Morning America.
