Credit: Guy ArochArcade Fire has premiered “Money + Love,” an epic double video for the songs “Put Your Money on Me” and “We Don’t Deserve Love,” two songs from the band’s latest album, Everything Now. The 16-minute visual is streaming now on YouTube.
“Money + Love” opens with a bankrupt Arcade Fire visiting they dystopian Everything Now Corporation to sign a new contract. As an evil company head, played by Emmy-winning actress Toni Collette, tells them, the Everything Now Corporation will own the band’s entire back catalogue, and will take “just 98.3 percent of future earnings.”
Reluctantly, the Canadian art rockers accept the deal, and find their music now inundated with product placement. They eventually snap while performing at a corporate party, and they try to escape. However, everyone but frontman Win Butler is recaptured. After a lonely walk through the desert, Butler finally decides to rejoin his friends and band mates.
The whole video seems to be a reflection on last year’s satirical promotional effort for the Everything Now album release, which poked fun at product placement and the idea of viral content.
If after 16 minutes you still want to see more Arcade Fire, you can catch them on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, airing March 17 on NBC.
