Island RecordsQueens of the Stone Age and Mumford & Sons are among the many artists interpreting the classic songs of Elton John on two new albums. Titled Revamp and Restoration, both collections will arrive on April 6.
Revamp features a variety contemporary rock and pop artists putting their spin the iconic musician’s work, including Queens of the Stone Age covering “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and Mumford & Sons taking on “Someone Saved My Life Tonight.”
Additionally, the album features Florence + the Machine, The Killers and Coldplay covering “Tiny Dancer,” “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters” and “We All Fall in Love Sometimes,” respectively.
Sir Elton himself also appears on Revamp, reworking “Bennie & the Jets” as a collaboration with pop star Pink and Grammy-nominated rapper Logic.
Meanwhile, Restoration sees some of country’s biggest names covering Elton songs, including Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson.
“As songwriters, Bernie [Taupin] and myself are thrilled when singers we admire and respect as much as those on Revamp & Restoration choose to add their own unique twist in the process,” says John in a statement. “It means that our music is still relevant and ultimately that our songs continue to reach new audiences. We’re humbled and thank them all for their generosity.”
Several artists contributing to Revamp and Restoration, including Coldplay’s Chris Martin, will appear on the upcoming TV special Elton John: I’m Still Standing — A Grammy Salute, which airs April 10 on CBS.
