Credit: Julie Skarratt Exciting news, Parrotheads!: Escape to Margaritaville, the musical inspired by and featuring the music of Jimmy Buffett, opens officially tonight at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre in New York City. The musical comedy features both classic and new Buffett compositions and tells the story about a part-time bartender and part-time singer at a Caribbean resort who falls for a beautiful career-minded vacationer.
The production is directed by Christopher Ashley, who won a Tony Award last year for Come from Away, with a book by Greg Garcia and Mike O’Malley, who both worked on the popular TV series My Name Is Earl.
Among the well-known Buffett tunes featured in the show are “Fins,” “Son of a Son of a Sailor,” “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and, of course, “Margaritaville.”
You can expect Buffett to chat about the musical this evening when he makes a guest appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which airs at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35 p.m. CT.
