O.A.R. is playing there tonight for a second time…and they’re hoping things go better than last time. It’s not that their performance was bad: it’s that they made the mistake of messing up the iconic venue’s stage.
Tonight, Carnegie Hall is hosting a Led Zeppelin tribute concert to raise money for music-education programs for underprivileged children and young people. O.A.R. singer Marc Roberge [roe-BAIRGE] tells ABC Radio what happened the last time they performed there, as part of the same concert series.
“We did a Talking Heads tribute there and they say, ‘Don’t bring any drinks on the stage, don’t bring your water, don’t bring any of that,'” he recalls. “And I bring coffee out, of course, for rehearsal, and I spilled it right on the stage! And the local [union] dude, he’s so mad at me…I was just, ‘Sorry, bro, blah blah blah’ and he HATES me.”
“So I’m gonna go back and take NO coffee this time,” Marc promises.
At tonight’s show, the “Shattered” hitmakers are performing the Led Zeppelin song “Fool in the Rain,” which they play live as a cover, and have also recorded. Other acts on the bill include Scandal‘s Patty Smyth of “The Warrior” fame; legendary band The Zombies, best known for “Time of the Season;” “Cult of Personality” rockers Living Colour; and “Girlfriend” singer Matthew Sweet.
O.A.R. recently released a new single, “Just Like Paradise,” and they’ll launch a summer headlining tour with Matt Nathanson starting July 24 in Kettering, OH. A new O.A.R. album is due later this year.
