ABC/Craig SjodinAfter performing her Oscar-nominated song “Mighty River” last night on the Academy Awards, Mary J. Blige has reportedly settled her divorce case.
The legal battle with her estranged husband Martin “Kendu” Isaacs was scheduled to begin today in Los Angeles, but the proceedings were called off because Isaacs has made a deal with Blige, TMZ reports.
The couple married in 2003, and Blige filed for divorce in 2016, citing “irreconcilable differences.” In October 2017, Blige was ordered by a judge to continue paying Isaacs $30,000 a month in spousal support, after his request for an increase to $65,000 a month was dismissed. Isaacs originally demanded $130,000.
As previously reported, Blige said in court documents that paying Isaac’s spousal support would be unfair and unreasonable. She claimed that she doesn’t own her music catalog, owes $25 million from advances, and had accrued another $12 million in debt while married to Isaacs.
Blige was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Mudbound, as well as Best Original Song Sunday night, but says she didn’t earn any money from her work on the movie.
