ABC/Randy HolmesBefore his death last May, Chris Cornell recorded a song for Forever Words, an album featuring contemporary artists setting country icon Johnny Cash‘s poetry and lyrics to music. The track, titled “You Never Knew My Mind,” is available now on digital outlets.
The sparse, acoustic-based tune is the late Soundgarden singer’s first posthumous release. The last song to be released before his death was his Grammy-nominated solo tune “The Promise,” which premiered in March 2017.
Forever Words, which was curated by Cash’s son, John Carter Cash, will arrive on April 6. Other artists who contributed to the album include Elvis Costello, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Jewel, Kacey Musgraves, Alison Krauss and Brad Paisley.
