ABC/Image Group LALinkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda guested on the newest episode of his bandmate Dave “Phoenix” Farrell‘s Member Guest podcast. During the conversation, Shinoda gave an update on the status of Linkin Park as the band continues to grieve and recover from Chester Bennington‘s death last July.
“I do spend time trying to figure out that path, and it’s a work in progress,” Shinoda says. “I know people would love to have a definitive statement from any of us saying, ‘This is what we’re gonna do!’ And it would be easy to do. I could totally lie right now and say this is what’s gonna happen in six months, 12 months, 18 months.”
“Obviously this is one of the most complex things you could ever imagine,” he continues. “I’m not trying to make any false promises on this.”
Shinoda previously said that he has “every intention of continuing” Linkin Park, adding that any concrete news will “take time.”
Last month, Shinoda released his first batch of new music since Bennington’s death, a three-song EP titled Post Traumatic. The EP was a big step for Shinoda, as he and most of Linkin Park had trouble even listening to music in the wake of their bandmate’s passing.
“We had a get-together with all the guys a week or two after,” Shinoda remembers. “And Dave had said, ‘Have you guys listened to any of our music?’ And everyone was like, ‘No.’ And he’s like, ‘I did,’ and that blew my mind.”
“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, how did you even do that?'” he continues. “And [Farrell] said, ‘It wasn’t as bad as you think. It’s super scary to do, but then I did it, and now I know that I can do it.'”
