Richard Martin/Atlantic RecordsAfter attempting to change his name to “No, My Name Is Jeffrey” back in August 2016, Young Thug has decided upon a new, more sensual moniker.
“I’m changing my name to SEX….,” the Atlanta rapper announced on Twitter on Tuesday.
He continued in another tweet, “For now on call me SEX!!!”
In 2016, the rapper, born Jeffrey Lamar William, said he’d change his name if his mixtape, Jeffrey, sold 100,000 copies in its first week — which it did not. But soon afterwards, he said he wanted to revert back to his birth name anyway, citing professional reasons.
“I had a long-term relationship with Young Thug and I’m kind of picky. So I felt like I ain’t wanna be in front of Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey. I ain’t want my kids to grow up and call me Thug,” he said during a listening party attended by Billboard. “I don’t want anybody to kind of look at me like that. So I’m gonna just use my real name.” However, he soon reverted back to Young Thug.
The rapper’s new name, which might have something to do with a forthcoming project, may last a bit longer.
