Image Group LA/ABCMarvel’s highly-anticipated Black Panther arrives in theaters today, and both the superhero movie and its soundtrack are projected to exceed expectations.
Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman tells ABC Radio that he got to meet the soundtrack’s executive producer and curator, Kendrick Lamar, prior to filming the movie.
“He did a show at the Kennedy Center. I talked to him for quite some time afterwards about James Brown,” he reveals.
Chadwick portrayed the music legend in the 2014 biopic, Get On Up.
When asked his thoughts about the Black Panther soundtrack, Chadwick adds, “This album is amazing. I worked out to it yesterday.”
As previously noted, Black Panther: The Album is project to debut at #1 on next week’s Billboard 200 chart.
Billboard initially reported that the disc could sell more than 100,000 units, but as of Thursday afternoon, the publication put that number at more than 150,000.
Should the soundtrack debut at number one, the disc will be the second soundtrack to top of the chart this year — the first was The Greatest Showman.
Two soundtracks haven’t topped the Billboard 200 in a single year since 2015, when the honor went to four different soundtrack albums: Descendants, Pitch Perfect 2, Furious 7 and Empire: Original Soundtrack from Season 1.
The digital version of Black Panther The Album dropped February 9. Physical copies of the disc arrive in stores today.
It features Kendrick, Khalid, SZA, Swae Lee, Vince Staples, Anderson .Paak, 2 Chainz, Travis Scott, Future and more.
Black Panther is from Marvel Studios and Disney, parent company of ABC News.
