According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Grammy nominated artist will star alongside The Wire’s Michael K. Williams, grown-ish star Trevor Jackson and Mudbound‘s Jason Mitchell.
There’s no word yet on what character Big Boi will portray in the film.
Big Boi is no stranger to the big and small screen as an actor. His acting resume includes roles in ATL, The Cookout 2, Single Ladies and Star.
As previously noted, Jackson is set to play the film’s lead, Youngblood Priest, while Mitchell will play Youngblood’s business partner, Eddie.
The original 1972 film, directed by Gordon Parks Jr., starred Ron O’Neal as Priest, a drug dealer looking for one more big score before he retires.
Director X will be directing the remake, with Joel Silver producing along with Future, who will also curate the movie’s soundtrack.
Superfly is scheduled to hit theaters June 15.
