ABC/Randy HolmesGarbage frontwoman Shirley Manson will be honored with the Icon Award at the 2018 NME Awards, which will be held in London February 14.
“I am quite shocked but delighted to be recognized by NME with this award,” says Manson. “I read it religiously as a young teen and well into adulthood, back when it was still a broadsheet, learning so much between its pages about music and the trailblazing artists who filled its pages.”
“Garbage gave us some of the defining singles of the ’90s, and Shirley set a template for being a fearless straight-talker that has influenced countless acts and millions of fans since,” adds NME Editor-in-Chief Mike Williams. “It’s our delight to officially honor her as an NME Icon.”
As previously reported, Liam Gallagher will receive NME‘s Godlike Genius award at the ceremony. His brother Noel received the title in 2012.
Other nominees for the 2018 NME Awards include Foo Fighters, Lorde and The Killers. To vote for your favorites, visit Awards.NME.com.
