Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham says, via NFL.com, “If you’re going to go with a Philly song, that’s the one you’re going with.”
Meek, a Philadelphia native, is currently serving a prison sentence at the Chester State Correctional Institution outside the city for violating probation.
Eagles rookie defensive end Derek Barnett adds, “Meek, you know, he’s locked up right now, so we have to hold the city down for him.”
Barnett also explains that “Dreams and Nightmares” just gets the team “going.” “It gives us good energy. Just a little extra juice.”
In a statement to Bleacher Report in January, Meek said that “it really lifted my spirit to hear the team rally around my songs because that’s why I make music — to inspire others and bring people together. The Eagles have also motivated me with the way they’ve overcome tough situations and injuries to success this year.”
The Philadelphia Eagles were taped dancing to “Dreams and Nightmares” on the field during the NFC Championship pre-game and in the locker room after their stunning win against the Minnesota Vikings during the NFC Championship on January 21.
The track comes from the rapper’s debut studio album, also titled Dreams and Nightmares.
The disc was released in 2012.
