The Recording AcademyJAY-Z was shut out at the Grammys on Sunday, and he didn’t perform on the show, but that didn’t keep him from getting an overnight Grammy sales bump.
Nielsen Music reports that sales of Jay’s nominated 4:44 were up 55 percent from the Saturday before the show to the Sunday of the show. Sales of the album’s title track jumped 143 percent while sales of “Story of O.J.” were up 135 percent.
Kendrick Lamar, who opened the show and swept the rap categories, saw sales of his winning album DAMN. grow by 92 percent and sales of his winning song, “HUMBLE.” increase by 71 percent. His collabo with Rihanna, “Loyalty,” which also took home a Grammy, rose 273 percent.
The show’s other performers also got bumps. Sales of DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller‘s “Wild Thoughts” were up 739 percent after the trio performed it Sunday. Childish Gambino, a.k.a. Donald Glover, saw sales of his nominated album, Awaken, My Love!, up 526 percent on Sunday.
The night’s big winner, of course, was Bruno Mars who won all six categories in which he was nominated, sweeping the night’s big prizes — Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. He also performed his “Finesse” duet with Cardi B.
Compared to sales on Saturday, sales of Bruno’s winning album, 24K Magic, rose 157 percent on Sunday, sales of Bruno’s winning single, “That’s What I Like,” rose 186 percent, and sales of his “Finesse” remix rose 53 percent.
