ABC/Heidi GutmanIt’s been a big week for Camila Cabello. After her self-titled solo album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, her single “Havana” finally went to number one on the Hot 100 chart after spending seven non-consecutive weeks at number two.
Camila tells Billboard that while she’s happy the song went to number one, she thinks it’s even more incredible to see a song inspired by her Latina heritage resonate with so many people.
“I feel like it just goes to show you that music is an emotion and that we’re really not all that different,” she says. “Music breaks through barriers of location and language and political views, and it just gets to everybody because it’s a feeling.”
She also saves the “biggest thank-you” to her fans, the Camilizers.
“They have worked so hard and been streaming and doing buyouts of my album and getting together with other fans in places all around the world,” Camila says. “We’ve just been on this crazy journey together, with both ‘Havana’ and my album.”
She adds, “I love you guys so much, seriously, you are the reason we’ve gotten this Hot 100 and the number one song. Thank you so much for going so hard and supporting me.”
