ABC/Randy HolmesTinashe is breaking down some song lyrics and declaring her individuality in a new video posted at Genius.com.
In the clip, she addresses the meaning behind her newest single “No Drama,” and she says she’s simply “just trying to make good music.”
“Tinashe classifies Tinashe as just an all encompassing entertainer, superstar, fiery energy,” she says about herself.
“So, it doesn’t necessarily have to be like, “Oh you’re pop,” or, “Oh you’re R&B.” It’s doesn’t have to be all these labels. I’m just trying to do me and if you got a problem with it, hey that’s your problem.”
It’s also apparent that the “Superlove” star is coming back with a vengeance.
With her latest track and its music video, along with recently teasing fans with news of more forthcoming music, Tinashe promises she’s going to be one to watch for a very long time.
“Y’all can say that I’m not doing this. I’m falling off. I’m not gonna be around. They want to kill me off. They won’t JFK me. Not today. Not today,” she continues.
“People are always kind of trying, I feel like, to put me into a particular box and say like, ‘Oh, you’re this or you’re that or we can put a label on you.’ I genuinely feel like I don’t fit into any of these boxes and I’m just legitimately always just trying to be myself.”
