Dennie Leupold/SYCO/Epic RecordsAfter spending seven weeks at #2, Camila Cabello‘s “Havana” has finally hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. That gives the former Fifth Harmony member both the #1 song and the #1 album in the country. Her solo debut, Camila, debuted at #1 on the album chart.
This is Camila’s first #1 hit. She’d previously reached #4 in Feburary of 2017 with “Bad Things,” her duet with Machine Gun Kelly. With Fifth Harmony, she also reached #4 in 2016 with “Work from Home.”
The last artist who simultaneously topped both the Hot 100 and the album chart was Beyoncé, who did in 2003 with her single “Crazy In Love,” and her album Dangerously in Love.
But if you want to find an artist who topped the Billboard Hot 100 and album chart simultaneously without previously being #1 on either chart — which Beyoncé had done with Destiny’s Child — you’ve got to go all the way back to 1999. That’s when Britney Spears did it with her album and song …Baby One More Time.
Billboard notes that Camila also now has something in common with Zayn Malik. Both were members of quintets formed on The X Factor and who, despite their popularity, never managed to hit #1. But after both departed their respective groups, they went on to hit #1 on their own.
As you may recall, Zayn scored in 2016 with his debut album, Mind of Mine, and his single, “Pillowtalk.”
