TRIPLE MURDER SUSPECT DUE IN COURT
A woman charged in connection with the mysterious deaths of a Griswold family will appear in Norwich Superior Court today. Police arrested 23-year-old Ruth Correa over the weekend, following an investigation into the deaths of Kenneth and Janet Lindquist. The couple were found dead in the burned out ruins of a house fire on December 20, 2017. Their 21-year-old son Matthew, disappeared after the fatal fire. His remains were discovered nearby earlier this month. Correa is facing three counts of felony murder, arson and robbery and is being held on a $2.5 million bond.
BOUGHTON GETS GOP GUBERNATORIAL NOMINATION
(Mashantucket, CT) — Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton is the Connecticut Republican Party’s endorsed candidate for governor. Boughton was selected during the state Republican Party convention Saturday at Foxwoods. Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst and businessman Steve Obsitnik both received enough support to force a primary for governor with Boughton. Republicans also endorsed Southington Senator Joe Markley for lieutenant governor.
NO BOOZE AT GARDNER LAKE
A 90-day ban on alcohol at Gardner Lake in Salem goes into effect by Memorial Day. The ban was put in place in early August a year ago, due to problems with drunken behavior, and piles of trash left behind, including used diapers and alcohol bottle caps. Local leaders urged officials to implement the ban when everything came to a head last 4th of July after police responded to an assault that sent one man to the hospital with a head injury.
UNTIMELY DEATH IN NL
New London police were called to a home in the area of Plant Street and Montauk Avenue around 11:00 o’clock Sunday morning after receiving a report of a deceased man in the yard. Police are investigating an untimely death but say it does not appear to be suspicious. The man’s name has not been released and the investigation is on-going. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the New London Police Department’s Detective Division.
LEGENDARY COACH DIES
The man considered to be the father of Norwich Free Academy wrestling has died. Carl Snitkin coached 63 wrestlers who won either a Class LL, State Open or New England championship. He had a 471-80-7 record in dual meets, the most wins in the state when he retired. Snitkin was a four-time national collegiate powerlifting champion at Springfield College and won gold in the super heavyweight division at the 1976 Pan American Games. Carl Snitkin was 72.
HEARING ON NEW CUMBERLAND FARMS TOMORROW
Despite three pending lawsuits challenging zoning permits, Cumberland Farms is ready to go ahead with a proposed gasoline station and 5,814-square-foot convenience store at the corner of West Main Street and New London Turnpike in Norwich. The project has faced controversy over the past two years. A provision in the zoning regulations prohibited one gasoline station from locating within 1,000 feet of another. The Mobil station across West Main Street is about 100 feet away. A public hearing is scheduled Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall on a special permit application by Cumberland Farms and the owners of the property.
