FIGHT CLUB CASE
The case against three Montville school administrators accused of failing to report a so-called fight club at the high school has been continued. Superintendent Brian Levesque, Principal Jeffrey Theodoss and Assistant Principal Tatiana Patten were scheduled to be arraigned this morning. Attorneys for the administrators say they intend to enter not guilty pleas on June 7th. Prosecutors say the trio should have reported the fighting incidents to police or the state Department of Children and Families. Levesque, Theodoss and Patten have each been placed on paid leave while the case proceeds.
COP IN COURT
A New London police officer who struck a handcuffed man in the face while making an arrest has pleaded guilty to criminal deprivation of rights by force. 50-year-old Deana Nott appeared in Middletown Superior Court on Thursday. She’s been given a one-year suspended sentence with three years of probation. Nott was also fined one-thousand dollars. She was initially suspended for a week after a surveillance video caught her striking a suspect as she placed him into a police cruiser. During her court appearance, Nott apologized to the victim, the New London police department and the city.
BARN EXPLOSION
Authorities say that a body has been found in a Connecticut building after an explosion during a standoff with police that left nine officers injured. Trooper Kelly Grant said the remains of one unidentified person was found in a building at the home in North Haven Thursday morning. North Haven officials say the blast happened at a barn behind a home Wednesday night while police were negotiating with a barricaded man.
EB EXPANDS IN RI
Rhode Island plans to spend $34 million to help General Dynamics Electric Boat expand its presence in the state and hire 1,300 new employees. Governor Gina Raimondo says that the Navy contractor will receive $20 million in tax credits. The state is investing $14 million to modernize the business park where Electric Boat is located. The news comes two days after Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy announced a similar partnership with EB’s Groton campus.
