After performing her song “Get Free” at Lollapalooza Brazil Sunday, Del Rey said “Now that my lawsuit’s over, I guess I can sing that song any time I want, right?” Footage of the announcement was posted to Twitter.
Back in January, Del Rey tweeted that Radiohead was suing her over the similarities between “Get Free” and the band’s breakthrough single “Creep,” and was demanding 100 percent of the publishing. “Their lawyers have been relentless, so we will deal with it in court,” she wrote.
However, a spokesperson for Radiohead’s music publisher Warner/Chappell denied the existence of a lawsuit and that the band demanded 100 percent of the publishing. The statement did acknowledge, however, that there had been “discussions” over the similarities between the two songs, and that the publisher had “requested that this be acknowledged in favor of all writers of ‘Creep.'”
Reps for Radiohead and Del Rey declined to comment to Pitchfork regarding the singer’s comments.
