ABC/Randy HolmesAfter the death of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, two black men who were shot and killed by police, T.I. has become one of the key hip-hop figures who are pushing for social justice.
In the upcoming Mass Appeal docuseries, Rapture, T.I. discusses his involvement in the cause.
In the series, T.I talks about his work, including some of the candid conversations he’s had with his children about interacting with police.
But, when asked about other initiatives, T.I. says he wants communities to be more aware of the importance of voting for local government.
“We have to be aware of what is going on because they shape the way we’re able to live,” T.I. tells ABC Radio.
“I mean, it’s always voter registration. Everybody should definitely stay aware of what’s going on with their local election because local government is really what affects your day to day.”
When it comes to voting on the national level, though, T.I., like many others, wishes one particular person would throw her hat in the ring for the next presidential election.
“I think that Oprah‘s energy is incredible and I think that she would run the country phenomenally,” he says.
And, like Oprah, T.I. believes he’d need some sort of divine intervention before he’d consider running for office himself.
“I haven’t been told by God that that’s my calling,” he quips.
Rapture, starring T.I. Nas, 2 Chainz, G-Eazy and Logic, launches on March 30 on Netflix.
