The incident happened Friday night, when a TSA officer apparently noticed a gun in Santana’s carry-on bag while it was going through an X-ray machine. The officer “froze” the bag inside the X-ray tunnel, and it was at that point that Santana allegedly fled the scene.
“Upon our discovery of the firearm, the individual left the checkpoint and went back into the public area,” the TSA said in an email, according to NorthJersey.com. The weapon turned out to be a loaded Derringer .38 caliber handgun.
Police confirmed that they visited the rapper’s home in Totowa, New Jersey, late Friday night, but no one was home.
Santana has been convicted three times prior on weapons charges. If charged with a crime for Friday night’s incident, he faces a civil penalty and a fine of up to $13,000.
The rapper was scheduled to perform Saturday night in San Francisco, but the nightclub’s host says the performance was canceled.
