Danny Baldwin; ABC/Randy HolmesBring Me the Horizon is currently working on a new album, and for inspiration, the British metal band is turning to Twenty One Pilots.
“[They’re] popular and accessible, but without compromising their integrity or who they are,” frontman Oli Sykes tells Kerrang! of the “Stressed Out” duo. “That’s a real challenge now.”
On Bring Me the Horizon’s most album, 2015’s That’s the Spirit, the band toyed with pop melodies and sensibilities, and they aren’t afraid to go further down that road.
“We like the idea of breaking into the mainstream,” Sykes says. “We’re not ashamed of that, we don’t see it as selling out. We see it as a great challenge, to make music that can be adored by more people but still retain who we are. That is the goal.”
Sykes adds that Bring Me the Horizon currently has about 30 song ideas “in various stages of non-completion” for the new album. While it’s still a work in progress, he says he hopes the band will release new music sometime this year.
