Image Group LA/ABCAriana Grande might have landed a Wicked new gig.
According to U.K.’s The Sun, the singer is in talks to land her first lead Broadway role as Elphaba in the musical Wicked. Ariana previously appeared on Broadway in the 2008 musical 13.
“This is a huge feat for Ariana. The role of Elphaba is one of the most coveted parts to play on Broadway,” a source tells The Sun.
The insider adds, “Only a very select group of actresses have been chosen over its 13-year run and Ariana is in talks to take the gig. Bosses believe she’s got the acting talent to take it on and think it’s a bonus that her pop star appeal can pull in fresh audiences.”
If confirmed for the role, Ariana would take over from Jackie Burns. Idina Menzel originated the role on Broadway.
Ariana most recently demonstrated her love for musicals in 2016, when she co-starred as Penny Pingleton in NBC’s production of Hairspray Live!
