We the Best/Epic RecordsHere’s another one: another star-studded single from DJ Khaled, that is.
Just over a year after Khaled teamed up with JAY Z and BEYONCE for the 2017 single “Shining,” the trio are back again with a new single called “Top Off” — and Future’s along for the ride as well.
The song’s hook is “I took the top off the Maybach,” but JAY and Bey both give “Free Meek Mill” shout-outs. For good measure, JAY also references Prince — in the form of some lyrics grabbed from “Raspberry Beret” — as well as his daughter Blue Ivy, Trayvon Martin’s killer George Zimmerman and that $91K bar bill he ran up a few weeks ago at his friend’s birthday bash.
In her verse, Bey rhymes, “Top off the coupe and it look like Freaknik/In the hood, hollerin’, ‘Free Meek’/Two deep, it’s just me and JAY/Just posted in them courtside seats/Woo! I’m like hol’ up…/Woo! I might roll up
If they’re tryna party with the queen/They gon’ have to sign a non-disclosure.”
According to Rolling Stone, the single is Khaled’s first release from his upcoming album Father of Asahd.
