ABC/Paula LoboBig Sean is continuing his commitment to give back to his hometown of Detroit by announcing he’s opening a new movie multiplex in the city.
“We want to do something revolutionary with it,” he said at a press conference, according to The Detroit Free Press. “”We don’t want to just make it a movie theater, traditionally. We also want it to be a hub for entertainment for the whole community. We want people to have an incentive to go the extra miles, to travel into Detroit.”
Sean made his comments at the Emagine Royal Oak theater, where he treated local students to a free screening of Black Panther.
Named after the Grammy Award nominated rapper, The Sean Anderson Theatre is scheduled to open in 2020. It will feature 10 to 12 screens, with rooms available for a variety of events, including concerts and seminars.
As Sean prepares to celebrate his 30th birthday on March 25, he sees the construction of the complex as one of his great accomplishments.
“This is more than a dream come true,” he said. “One of the aspirations, when you do something creative like music … is to be an owner in something. So this is one of the first things outside of music that I’m actually an owner in.”
