Samir Hussein/WireImageIn a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards takes a humorous dig at his old band mate Mick Jagger and the fact that the singer became a father again in 2016 at age 73.
Mick’s a randy old bastard,” declares Richards. “It’s time for the snip — you can’t be a father at that age. Those poor kids!”
Apparently thinking twice about his remarks, Keith quickly issued an apology on Twitter today.
“I deeply regret the comments I made about Mick in the WSJ which were completely out of line,” writes Richards. “I have of course apologized to him in person.”
Despite his historically contentious relationship with Jagger, Richards does say plenty of nice things about him in The Wall Street Journal article.
“It’s been up- and downhill,” he admits, “but if I’m talking about the Rolling Stones, there ain’t a frontman like Jagger. Don’t matter how many bones you want to pick out of him, he’s amazing to work with.”
Richards also maintains that after decades together, The Stones, who kick off a new European tour in May, as a whole continue to be enthusiastic about playing live.
“There’s a certain thing in this band, which I find really weird, is that they just want to do it,” Keith notes. “[A]ll I know about this damn band is that they always want to make it better than the night before. And that’s one of the things that keeps us going.”
In addition, Richards gives a status update on The Stones’ next album, which he says is “in the early stages.” Keith reports that the band has recorded some “very interesting” things, but he and Mick still need to find time to come up with more material.
