Blackened RecordingsIndonesia President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has once again proven his metal cred. According to The Jakarta Post, he reached into his own pocket so he could keep a Master of Puppets box set signed by Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich,
You may recall that the prime minister of Ulrich’s native Denmark gifted the Master of Puppets box set to Jokowi during a state visit last November. In order to avoid any conflict of interest, Jokowi reported the gift to Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK. It was then listed as part of the Indonesia state inventory.
The Jakarta Post now reports Jokowi paid 11 million Indonesian rupiah, just over $800, so that he could keep the album for himself.
“This is not about the money paid, but consistent awareness of corruption from even the smallest matter,” a spokesperson for the KPK says.
Jokowi is well known as a metalhead, and counts himself a fan of bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Lamb of God. He previously received a guitar signed by Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo from a concert promoter, which he also reported to the KPK.
