ABC/Image Group LA Troy Gentry’s widow, Angie, is suing the maker of the helicopter that crashed September 8, taking the Montgomery Gentry’s singer’s life, according to People.
The suit, filed in Pennsylvania, alleges that Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., Sikorsky Global Helicopters and Keystone Helicopter Corp. knew the Model 269 Schweitzer helicopter had “dangerous defects,” and lacked “modern crashworthy features” included on the military version of the aircraft, “so that in the event of an accident, occupants had virtually no change to survive or be less injured.”
The helicopter’s pilot had offered to take troy on a sightseeing tour of Flying W Airport and Resort in Medford, New Jersey, prior to Montgomery Gentry’s scheduled performance later that day. According to the NTSB, the helicopter had engine trouble shortly after takeoff. The suit claims that “defects in the engine” made it impossible to “perform a routine autorotation safely to the ground,” resulting in the crash.
Both Troy and the pilot were killed. Angie’s suit seeks “damages of more than $50,000,” plus legal fees and interest.
