ABC/Fred LeeFlorence Welch has teamed up an Oscar-nominated filmmaker for her next project.
The Florence + the Machine frontwoman stars in a new photo shoot for W magazine, directed by Lady Bird writer/director Greta Gerwig.
The title of the shoot is The Domestic Kingdom and Terror and Beauty, and finds Welch in a variety of odd household situations, such as lighting birthday cake candles in the kitchen or stuffing her purse with fake butterflies.
“The theme was dark fantasy, and, in a certain way, Florence already lives there, so I didn’t want to double down on what she’s already made,” Gerwig says. “It would actually be her dark fantasy — trapped in a house as a housewife forever.”
“It’s not really a stretch for me to play a mad person,” Welch adds. “Someone who’s seeing and hearing things and trying to put butterflies in her handbag.”
In addition to exploring the terror and beauty of “The Domestic Kingdom,” Welch has been working on a new album, reportedly due out this year.
