ABC/Tim OgierNickelback will launch a five-night residency at The Joint in Las Vegas this Friday, February 23. Having seen their share of excess over their more than two decades in the business, the Canadian rockers plan to take full advantage of what Sin City has to offer during their run.
“Las Vegas is known for a ‘more is more’-type of philosophy,” bassist Mike Kroeger tells ABC Radio. “So we’re gonna embrace that and see how far we can push it.”
Even over five shows, Nickelback will have plenty of material to choose from — they just released their ninth full-length album, Feed the Machine, last summer. But you’ll definitely be hearing the hits during the residency, and possibly a few deeper cuts.
“We’re in discussions about dusting off some of the moldy oldies, so to speak, and bringing ’em out,” Kroeger says.
The Vegas run will be Nickelback’s first residency of this length in any city, and Kroeger admits that the band “didn’t really know if we wanted to do this” at first. But if everything goes well this time around, there may be more residencies in Nickelback’s future.
“It’s just a test run,” Kroeger says. “We’re gonna see how we like it, how Las Vegas likes it. Just to see how it works.”
One thing Kroeger is sure of, though, is that Nickelback will be bringing the spirit of their home country to Sin City.
“We’ll have Canadians running wild in the streets even in greater numbers than normal in Las Vegas,” he says.
Nickelback’s Vegas residency shows take place February 23, 24 and 27, and March 2 and 3.
