Steven Ferdman/Getty ImagesDon’t get too excited, but it sure looks like the new Tool album is coming together.
Frontman Maynard James Keenan has given an uncharacteristically encouraging update on the enigmatic metal band’s long-awaited follow-up to their last effort, 2006’s 10,000 Days.
“Started getting music files from the boys [with] the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging,” Keenan tweets. “That in theory means the tracks wont change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory.”
“Still waiting for the FINAL on 1…but way ahead,” he adds. “Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1. Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer.”
Ever the curmudgeon, Keenan adds the hashtags “#whileyouwerewhiningiwasworking” and “#theresyourupdate.”
Over the past few months, the rest of Tool — guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor — have been working on the instrumentals for the album, and have invited artists such as Tom Morello and Sebastian Bach to hear them.
You can also hear Keenan on the upcoming new A Perfect Circle album Eat the Elephant, due out April 20.
