Interscope RecordsBritish singer-songwriter Ella Mai is a rising star who’s already collaborated with some big names, including Ty Dolla Sign and Chris Brown.
She tells ABC Radio that working with Ty was “really easy,” adding that the rapper is “super laid-back, super chill.”
“That wasn’t the first time I met him, so… I kinda of felt a little at ease,” she explains.
Describing Ty’s contribution to her song “She Don’t,” Ella says, “It took him probably, like, ten minutes. [Ty and DJ Mustard] didn’t write anything down and just vibed and kind of came up with his verse there. And that was how it came about.”
However, when it came to working with Breezy, Ella says that experience was actually “very weird and surreal,” because she’d dreamed of doing just that since she was a little kid.
She explains, ” I’m a huge Chris Brown fan and I have been since I was 11 years old. So, I’ve always said it in my head: ‘Oh, I’m gonna work with Chris Brown one day.'”
Ella continues, “But… you know when it’s in front of you, it’s like, ‘OK, wow.’ It was a little bit unexpected because [he] was listening to my song “Boo’d Up” on his Instagram story a couple months before we worked in the studio together. But [the collaboration] was really organic, ’cause he showed that he liked my music.”
“It was amazing working with him,” she says.
“We went in the studio. We recorded a couple songs. And he was super laid-back in telling me how much he loved my music. I definitely think I’ll work with Chris Brown and Ty again.”
