SideOneDummy Records The Gaslight Anthem‘s three-year hiatus will come to an end this spring when the band launches a tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their 2008 sophomore album, The ’59 Sound. But as frontman Brian Fallon tells Rolling Stone, he and the rest of Gaslight weren’t exactly sure whether or not they should commemorate the milestone.
“Do we do something? Do we ignore it?” Fallon remembers thinking. “The big thing between us was let’s just do what’s fun. So if it’s heavy-handed and not that cool, then let’s not do it.”
He continues, “But we all feel that this is an important record to not only us, but to the people that love it.”
The tour will kick off May 27 in Washington, D.C., and will also hit New York City’s Governors Ball festival in June, then Toronto and Chicago in August. Fallon says that more U.S. shows might be added, but you shouldn’t necessarily expect the reunion to lead to a new Gaslight album.
“I think Green Day‘s American Idiot is probably the best comeback or mid-career record that any band has done,” says Fallon. “So if I was sitting on American Idiot level stuff, then I might push for the, ‘Hey guys, maybe we should try these songs out.’ But I’m not sitting on that.”
Along with the Gaslight reunion, Fallon has also released a new solo album titled Sleepwalkers, which is out now.
