Denise TruscelloDespite being a seasoned singing legend, Celine Dion still gets pre-show jitters.
Ahead of her first New Zealand concert in more than 20 years set to take place this summer, Celine sat down with Kiwi singer Anika Moa for 1 News Now to discuss how she finds her moment of zen before she takes the stage.
“So I get anxious and it’s not in a nervous way, it’s anticipating the moment to start,” Celine says. “So I’m trying to breathe slowly, my mouth gets a little dry, so I pinch my tongue, it produces saliva. And I breathe slowly and I say, ‘This is for you, my three boys.'”
But how does she deal with having to sing the same songs over and over again?
“Sometimes I think, ‘Not that song again,’ you know?” she admits. “But when it starts, I look at one person and that person is hearing me and looking at me singing it for her for the first time and she’s crying. It’s like, wow.”
When she’s not on stage, you can find her relaxing at home with her sons, Rene-Charles, Nelson and Eddy.
“I stay in my pajamas,” she says. “They cuddle and we play, we eat together, and we just stay in bed and watch movies.”
After finishing up her Vegas residency dates on June 9, Celine will tour Asia before heading to Australia and New Zealand at the end of July.
