Mike Berlin, Music ChoiceMusic Choice has kicked off this year’s Black History Month by naming Ne-Yo as its Artist of the Month for February.
Fans will be able to watch music and exclusive content from the “Miss Independent” artist throughout the whole month, via all Music Choice platforms.
Two sneak peek videos, featuring Ne-Yo talking about the state of R&B today and meeting his idols, are available to view on YouTube right now.
In the visual where he talks about R&B music, Ne-Yo says, “To be honest with you, the concept of what R&B is has been lost a little bit, just a little bit. Just behind the fact that R&B stands for Rhythm and Blues. A lot of experimentation in regards to rhythm and cadence and stuff like that. But, just the blues element of it, the vibe of it.”
He continues, “There are some cats out there that are definitely trying to keep it alive and then there are some cats out there that have embraced the evolution of.”
“There’s nothing wrong with embracing the evolution of. If you listen to R&B from the 60’s vs. R&B from the 70’s, it changes — it’s supposed to change, it’s supposed to evolve with the times and the people we get that.”
“But at the same time, the foundation of R&B has been lost a little bit but is trying to swing back this way. I feel like it’s trying.”
In addition, the first season of Step Up: High Water, which stars Ne-Yo, is out now on YouTube Red.
The first four episodes of the TV drama, based on the Step Up movie franchise, are available to watch for free.
