Credit: Lee CherryJohn Fogerty recently wrapped his latest residency at the Wynn resort casino in Las Vegas, and now the ex-Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman is focusing on writing songs for a new studio album.
The 72-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer recently chatted with ABC Radio about the upcoming record, and he explained that the material he’s come up with so far is in the vein of the roots-flavored rock for which he’s become famous.
“The songs that I’ve written or have started to get into at this point are certainly my DNA,” he noted. “I mean, I’m not trying to do some odd thing. I think I’m trying to write tasteful music that is along the lines of what I seem to know how to do. It’s not contrived, in other words.”
Fogerty added, “I do my best when I’m just natural rather than trying to step three steps to the left and do some sort of…put-on or something.”
John told ABC Radio that he’s enjoying the convenience of working on the new album in the home studio he built in his Los Angeles-area residence.
“I’ve eliminated the hassle of having to drive halfway across Los Angeles to get to some fancy studio,” he pointed out. “That was always very time-consuming, and a bit annoying too, you can imagine, twice a day fighting the famous traffic.”
Meanwhile, Fogerty posted a message on his official website thanking fans “for an incredible run in Las Vegas!” He declares, “I couldn’t have had more fun and I am so lucky to have such great fans and…SOLD OUT shows.”
John also hints that a new tour could be coming soon, noting, “After all, we are the ‘Travelin’ Band.’ 2018 it’s gonna be a Rockin’ good one!”
