Audible.com.auNo one pokes fun at Michael Bolton’s early ‘90s career quite like Michael Bolton.
In a new music video for Amazon’s audiobook company Audible, the singer re-imagines his 1993 classic “Said I Loved You…But I Lied” as “Said I Read You…But I Lied.”
The video is targeted to Audible’s Australian users, after research found that one-third of Aussies would lie about whether or not they’ve read a book.
“Open the cover/I scan the page/The words they call me/It’s always the same/There’s love for reading in this heart of mine/But I can’t find the time,” Michael sings dramatically in the video.
But then he discovers Audible’s 30-day free trial and it changes his life. Now, he can listen to books just like he listens to his favorite songs.
The clip features a series of ridiculous scenes of Michael enjoying Audible while wearing orange headphones. He stands fully clothed in a pool, works out on a treadmill and enjoys a picnic with a taxidermied lizard.
“No one can deny the power of the spoken word, whether it’s a ’90s classic or your favorite audiobook,” Michael says in a statement. “I loved the idea of re-recording one of my hits with the aim of helping Audible.com.au inspire people to listen to more audiobooks – while having a huge amount of fun in the process.”
Michael has been no stranger to parody songs in recent years. He was featured in Saturday Night Live’s “Jack Sparrow” digital short, and has remade the Game of Thrones theme as a ‘90s power ballad.
