Credit: Scarlet PageAs rumors of a Smashing Pumpkins continue to fly, Billy Corgan may have let loose that the ’90s alt vets are recording an album with iconic producer Rick Rubin.
In a long, winding Instagram post that begins with the sentence “I’ve had a crazy life,” Corgan writes, “we are currently in the studio with Rick Rubin.” It’s unclear exactly who the “we” in question are, but Corgan did recently share a photo of himself alongside original Pumpkins members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin in a recording studio.
It’s also possible that the post is referring to a different project, since Rubin produced Corgan’s new solo album, 2017’s Ogilala.
Rumors have been swirling for years that the original Smashing Pumpkins lineup — Corgan, Iha, Chamberlin and bassist D’arcy Wretzky — was planning to get back together. However, Wretzky revealed earlier this month that she won’t be participating in any reunion.
