Jeff Neira/CBSChildish Gambino‘s next album will, indeed, be his last.
The “Redbone” artist, also known as actor Donald Glover, confirmed the news backstage at the Grammys Sunday night, after winning his first Grammy trophy for Best Traditional R&B performance.
Backstage after the broadcast, he said, “I’m really appreciative of this [Grammy] and…I’m making another project right now…but I like endings. And I think they’re important to progress.”
“I think if a lot of things had death clauses in them we wouldn’t have a lot of problems in the world, to be honest. I think endings are good ’cause they force things to get better,” he added.
As previously reported, Glover hinted about his retirement from music during his performance at the Governors Ball music festival in New York.
While onstage, he told fans, “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.”
The multi-talented star has a host of other projects in the works, in addition to his Golden-Globe winning TV series, Atlanta.
He’s playing Lando Calrissian in the forthcoming Han Solo standalone Star Wars film, and he’ll voice Simba in the live-action re-imagined version of The Lion King.
Glover’s also confirmed as the co-creator, co-executive producer and co-writer of an upcoming animated Deadpool television series.
Season two of Atlanta premieres March 1 at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
