Michele Crowe/CBSNot like we got a look at it Sunday night at the Grammys since she didn’t perform or win, but Lorde was sporting her own Time’s Up message as part of her outfit. And no, it wasn’t a white rose.
Lorde posted a photo of a note she had pinned to the back of her red gown, captioned “My version of a white rose — THE APOCALYPSE WILL BLOSSOM — an excerpt from the greatest of all time, jenny holzer.”
The note, an excerpt from a piece by artist Jenny Holzer, read, “Rejoice! Our times are intolerable. Take coverage for the worst is a harbinger of the best. Only dire circumstance can precipitate the overthrow of oppressors. The old and corrupt must be laid to waste before the just can triumph. Contradiction will be heightened. The reckoning will be hastened by the staging of seed disturbances. The apocalypse will blossom.”
The fact that Album of the Year nominee Lorde didn’t perform was a topic of conversation backstage at the Grammys Sunday night. Responding to rumors that she didn’t sing because she wasn’t offered a solo performance slot, Recording Academy President Neil Portnow told reporters, “We have a wealth of riches every year and it’s hard to have a balanced show and have everybody involved. We can’t have a performance from every nominee.”
