UMe/PolydorA variety of famous singers are featured on an upcoming compilation of Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s most memorable compositions that’s being released to mark the theater legend’s 70th birthday. Andrew Lloyd Webber Unmasked: The Platinum Edition is due out March 16, and will be available as a four-CD set, a two-CD package and in digital formats.
Among the many stars featured on the retrospective are Madonna, Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Cliff Richard, The Everly Brothers, Donny Osmond, Yvonne Elliman, Alice Cooper, Murray Head and Deep Purple‘s Ian Gillan.
Webber personally selected all the album’s recordings to reflect songs from all his hit musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sunset Boulevard, Starlight Express and School of Rock. Those productions have grossed nearly $14 billion total worldwide.
The album features Madonna singing two songs from the film version of Evita, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and “Oh What a Circus,” the latter of which is a duet with Antonio Banderas. The compilation also includes Presley singing “It’s Easy for You,” a Webber tune that appeared on Elvis’ final studio album, Moody Blue.
In addition, you’ll get Streisand singing “With One Look,” from Sunset Boulevard; Osmond performing two songs from Joseph; and Jones’ and The Everlys’ contributions to a 1998 concept album featuring various artists performing songs from Whistle Down the Wind.
Andrew Lloyd Webber Unmasked also features three newly recorded songs: Lana Del Rey singing Evita‘s “You Must Love Me”; ex-Pussycat Dolls singer and X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger performing “Memory” from Cats; and Gregory Porter singing “Light at the End of the Tunnel,” from Starlight Express.
