The Recording AcademyKendrick Lamar took center stage at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. After a stellar opening performance, which was cleverly assisted by Dave Chappelle, Kendrick went onto sweep his category by winning, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song for “HUMBLE.” and Rap Album of the Year for DAMN.
He also won for Best Rap/Sung performance for “LOYALTY,” featuring Rihanna — who he made sure to bring up on stage. On the podium, Kendrick admitted that Rih Rih played a big part in bringing that song together. Rihanna, however, offered a “humble” response declaring Kendrick’s award was definitely well deserved by the talented Compton rapper.
Kendrick beat out JAY-Z for Rap Album of the Year. Of course, Kendrick made sure to pay homage to his mentor by telling the crowd, “Jay-Z for President!”
The biggest prize of the that night, Album of the Year, however, went to Bruno Mars for 24K Magic.
Still, Kendrick ended up winning four of out his seven nominations, including the aforementioned categories and for Best Music Video for “HUMBLE.”
