The Recording AcademyThe 60th annual Grammy Awards will be held tonight, January 28 in New York City’s Madison Square Garden, and the nominees include a number of rock’s biggest names.
The Best Rock Song nominees include Foo Fighters‘ “Run,” Metallica‘s “Atlas, Rise!,” Avenged Sevenfold‘s “The Stage,” Nothing More‘s “Go to War” and K.Flay‘s “Blood in the Cut.”
“Run” and “Go to War” are also up for Best Rock Performance, as are Chris Cornell‘s “The Promise,” Kaleo‘s “No Good” and Leonard Cohen‘s “You Want It Darker.”
Metallica’s Hardwired…to Self-Destruct, Nothing More’s The Stories We Tell Ourselves, Queens of the Stone Age‘s Villains, Mastodon‘s Emperor of Sand and The War on Drugs‘ A Deeper Understanding are nominated for Best Rock Album.
The Best Alternative Music Album contenders include Arcade Fire‘s Everything Now, Gorillaz‘s Humanz, LCD Soundsystem‘s American Dream, The National‘s Sleep Well Beast and Father John Misty‘s Pure Comedy.
Lorde‘s Melodrama is up for Album of the Year, while Imagine Dragons‘ Evolve and “Thunder” are nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, respectively.
Additionally, artists including Portugal. the Man and Coldplay.
Rock performers at the Grammys include U2, Sting and Elton John, the latter of whom will be collaborating with Miley Cyrus.
The rock world lost many high-profile artists over the past year, including Cornell, Allman, Chester Bennington, Tom Petty and, most recently, Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries. Grammys Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich tells ABC Radio that tributes to the musicians we lost will “definitely” be a part of Sunday’s show.
The Grammys air live at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Several awards will be announced during a pre-show ceremony, which will stream via Grammy.com starting at 3 p.m. ET.
