Credit: Anton CorbijnSome details have leaked out about U2‘s performance on the 60th annual Grammy Awards this Sunday. E! News reports that the Irish rockers will join rapper Kendrick Lamar to open the ceremony, as will comedian Dave Chappelle.
Lamar, the most-nominated artist at this year’s Grammys, is featured on two tracks from U2’s recently released album, Songs of Experience — “Get Out of Your Own Way” and “American Soul.” In addition, the Rock & Roll Hall-of-Famers lent their talents to a tune from Lamar’s latest album, D.A.M.N., called “XXX,” which features elements of U2’s “American Soul.”
Meanwhile, CBS New York reports that U2 was seen rehearsing for the Grammy performance Thursday night on a barge on the Hudson River in New York City. According to the reliable U2 fan site At U2, graphics projected onto the barge indicated that the song the band was playing was “American Soul.”
Grammys executive producer Ken Ehrlich chatted with ABC Radio about the ceremony’s opening, and while he didn’t reveal specifics about the performance, he noted: “there are two of the three artists that are involved in it that have been on the show before, [and] it’s something you just have never seen…[I]t’s a pretty amazing number.”
The 60th Annual Grammy Awards, hosted by James Corden, airs live at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
