Bret Hartman/CBSImagine Dragons are up for two Grammy awards this Sunday, and drummer Daniel Platzman is “honored” to be recognized.
“Growing up practicing music and playing music with my friends, it’s the dream to be able to go be at the Grammys and be a part of that whole thing,” Platzman tells ABC Radio. “So many legends have been a part of it, so many of my personal heroes will be in the room.”
“I’m sure I’ll do something very embarrassing, but it’ll probably also make a great memory,” he adds.
Imagine Dragons is up for Best Pop Vocal Album for their latest effort, Evolve, while their single “Thunder” will compete for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award.
“I’m pretty blown away at the reaction we’ve gotten to ‘Thunder,'” Platzman says. “It’s awesome that so many people have a connection to the song.”
As for the source behind that connection, Platzman will “selfishly” credit “Thunder’s” “funky drum beat.”
“I know I’m a little biased, but I got to think it’s got something to do with the big drop on the chorus when those syncopated high hats come in,” he says. “But, you know, you asked the drummer.”
We’ll see if the Grammy voters agree when the show airs live from New York City’s Madison Square Garden this Sunday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
