ABC RadioToni Braxton stars in Saturday’s Lifetime television movie, Faith Under Fire, which tells the real-life story of Antoinette Tuff, who saved hundreds of lives after a gunman who charged into an elementary school in 2013.
The “Deadwood” singer tells ABC Radio she prepared for the role not only mentally, but also physically.
“I gained seventeen pounds for it. …I lost it, but I gained five back,” Braxton reveals.
Toni says she also “studied with a coach” for her acting, and “watched every imaging and everything I could about Miss Tuff. …Just to know how she talked, how she spoke, how she may have been feeling. I just tried to live, breathe and sleep everything Miss Antoinette Tuff.”
Another TV broadcast event Toni’s looking forward to over the weekend is the Grammys, but she has no plans to attend: “I’m not going to the Grammys this year. I may go to Clive’s [Davis] party. But not the Grammys.”
That doesn’t mean Toni won’t be rooting for one of her favorite performers who’s among the leading nominees.
“Kendrick Lamar is one of my favorites,” Toni confesses. “I’m a huge fan, OK? I do love Kendrick Lamar and his new song… Or his new album, I should say.”
The Grammys air on CBS January 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET, live from New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Faith Under Fire premieres Saturday, January 27 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
